Step 2 : Wash the items in clean water without using soap or detergent. Let them air dry.
Step 3 : Grind a small handful of white rice in the mortar. Discard the rice and repeat until the rice grinds white. This may take multiple attempts.
Step 4: Mash 4 to 6 cloves of garlic together with the ground rice.
Step 5 : Add 1 teaspoon each of cumin, rock salt, and pepper to the garlic mixture. Grind everything together, then discard the mixture.
Step 6 : Wash the mortar and pestle again with clean water (no soap) and let them air dry.
